Showing how a painting may totally change and evolve as you play and progress with ideas, colours and concepts. Mood and atmosphere are created and change as different palettes and textures are used. Even the illusion of 3 dimensional objects may be used to enhance what is basically an abstract. The shells, figures and birds being such an example?

A composite of 5 diferent photos and a painting based on greens. Some texture but most mainly created on a 2 dimensional surface using sponges, rollers and brushes. Playing with sunlight as it dapples through trees onto our scene and sheep. A fine balance in between using the abstract and figurative images.

The last, and possibly one of my favourites, in this exploratory series using very different palettes, materials and subjects. In this case very moody deep blues and purples enhanced by glowing reds and greens. A fantasy mixture of floating fuigure forms, textures and feathers. Masses of texture using many methods, great fun!

Painting 1 in a series of 6 very different artworks using different themes and colour sequences. Playing between the figurative and the abstract. In this case personal images plus textural and mood making colours and subject matter. I show how gold leaf maybe used, realistic brushwork and images in oils, plus splattering affects and the use of syringes with acrylics.

Rather than simply copying photographs I enjoyed trying to capture the essence of these beautiful creatures and vibrant colours within a composite design. I also enjoyed playing with textures about the wings and veins using acrylic inks and oil paints over tissue paper soaked in P.V.A. glue. This is part of a series of very different artworks all showing how the figurative may be used within the abstract.

Changing the shutter speed on a digital camera, whether it is a compact point-and-shoot or a dslr, it will make a big difference to subjects that are in motion. If you want to capture the kids playing on a waterslide or a slow waterfall the shutter speed will change the image from average to stunning. Using sport scene mode if no shutter priority is available is also a great and simple way of employing this technique.
